Terms of Use
These Terms are the agreement between you and Rootmap. They describe what the service does, what you can expect from it, what we expect from you, and what happens when something goes wrong.
Last updated:
1.These Terms and what they cover
Rootmap is an AI-assisted learning service available at rootmap.ai (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use (the "Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The Privacy Policy is part of these Terms and explains what data we process, why, and for how long.
Rootmap is under active development and is run by a small team. These Terms are pending review by legal counsel and may change — when a change is material, we will tell you in advance, as described in the section on changes.
2.Who can use Rootmap
You must be 18 or older to use the Service. We do not offer Rootmap to children or teenagers and do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we will close it and delete the data.
You must also be legally able to enter into this agreement and not be barred from using the Service by a previous decision of ours or by applicable law.
3.Your account
Access is through sign-in with your Google account only. We neither create nor store passwords: Google gives us your name and email address, and that is what your Rootmap account is built from.
- Your account is personal and non-transferable. You are responsible for what happens in it and for keeping your Google account secure.
- One person, one account. Creating additional accounts to claim free-plan benefits again violates these Terms.
- The information you provide (such as your display name) must be accurate and kept up to date.
- If you notice unauthorised use of your account, tell us right away at contato@rootmap.ai.
4.What Rootmap does
From the subject you name, the Service builds a knowledge tree — a map of connected topics — and uses third-party language models to generate study material for each topic: text, references, summaries, quizzes, flashcards and audio episodes. You talk to the AI inside that context, go deeper on topics, branch new ones, and track your progress.
Rootmap is a study tool. It is not an educational institution, it does not award certificates, degrees or academic credit, and it does not replace professional advice — see the section on AI-generated content.
5.Plans, billing and cancellation
The Service has a free plan and paid plans (Plus and Max). What each one includes, and the current prices, are on the plans page. What is described there is part of these Terms.
- Billing
- Subscriptions are monthly and processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your card details. We quote in Brazilian reais (BRL) or US dollars (USD) depending on your language and region; applicable taxes may be added at checkout.
- Auto-renewal
- Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each cycle, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. It is charged to the payment method on file.
- Cancellation
- You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current cycle: you keep paid access through the period you already paid for, and nothing is charged after that.
- Right of withdrawal
- If you subscribed from Brazil, you have 7 calendar days from the purchase to withdraw and receive a full refund, under article 49 of the Brazilian Consumer Code. Elsewhere, statutory withdrawal or cooling-off rights apply where your local law grants them. Just email us within the period.
- Refunds outside that window
- Beyond the withdrawal right and the cases required by law, amounts already paid are not refunded, including pro rata for unused time. If the Service failed you in a material way, write to us — we look at these case by case.
- Price changes
- We may change prices. We will give at least 30 days' notice, and a change only applies from the cycle following the notice; if you disagree, you can cancel before it takes effect.
- Failed payments
- If a charge fails we may retry, and if it keeps failing we may move the account down to the free plan. Your content is not deleted for this reason, but free-plan limits then apply.
6.Usage limits
Every interaction with the Service consumes third-party AI capacity, which has a real per-use cost. That is why the Service runs with limits — they are part of the product, not a defect:
- Per-plan limits — how many maps you can keep, how many topics you can create, how many questions and generations per period, and which features each plan includes.
- Model routing — the Service decides which AI model handles each task, and that choice varies by plan and by operation. We may change models or providers at any time, as long as the quality promised to your plan is preserved.
- Safety ceiling — even on plans with no stated limit, a technical cap applies to contain anomalous, automated or disproportionate use.
On the free plan we may additionally pause new sign-ups, reduce limits, or temporarily suspend free access when the cost of sustaining it exceeds what the operation can carry. Active paid accounts are not affected by that measure, and your content stays accessible.
When you reach a limit, the Service tells you and the corresponding feature is unavailable until the period resets or you upgrade.
7.AI-generated content
Rootmap's study material is generated automatically by language models. It can contain errors, omissions, out-of-date information, or confident-sounding statements that are simply invented — including when it cites sources.
- Check before you rely on it. The references and links attached to the content help you verify it, but they do not guarantee that what was written is correct.
- The content is educational and general in nature. It is not medical, legal, financial, investment, psychological, tax or safety advice, and it does not replace a qualified professional. Decisions of that kind are yours and your responsibility.
- The same question can produce different answers at different times, and content similar to yours may be generated for other people.
- If a passage is wrong, you can flag it inside the content itself. Corrections and regenerations do not erase the record of what was produced before.
8.Your content
"Your content" is everything you send to the Service — the subject you want to study, the context you give, your messages, notes, highlights and corrections — and also the material the Service generates for you from it: trees, topics, content blocks, artefacts and audio.
- You keep whatever rights you already have in what you send. We claim no ownership of your content.
- You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, process, transmit, display and adapt your content — only as far as needed to operate the Service, keep it secure and comply with the law. The licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for backup copies and legal retention duties.
- As far as the law allows, the material generated for you is yours to use as you wish, including commercially. We claim no exclusive rights over it — and it is worth knowing that in many jurisdictions output produced solely by a machine may not attract copyright at all.
- We do not use your content to train AI models, ours or anyone else's. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
- You are responsible for what you send: for having the right to send it, and for not including other people's sensitive data, confidential material, or content that infringes someone else's rights.
9.Acceptable use
When using Rootmap, you agree not to:
- Use the Service for unlawful activity, to infringe anyone's rights, or to produce content that promotes harm, discrimination, child sexual exploitation, violence or deliberate disinformation.
- Circumvent, probe or interfere with usage limits, authentication, account isolation or any technical protection — including by creating multiple accounts to do so.
- Extract data from the Service at scale (scraping, automation, reverse-engineering internal prompts and instructions), or resell, sublicense or make the Service available to third parties as if it were your own.
- Overload the infrastructure, distribute malware, or attempt unauthorised access to accounts, systems or data.
- Use the Service as a pass-through for generic language-model access, outside the product's study purpose.
- Present generated material as your own original human work where authorship is required — coursework, assessments and examinations, for example. The rules of whoever is assessing you prevail, and following them is your responsibility.
10.Rootmap's intellectual property
The Service itself — software, interface, design, brand, name, logo, marketing copy and product structure — belongs to Rootmap and is protected by intellectual property law. These Terms transfer none of those rights to you; they grant only a personal, limited, revocable and non-transferable licence to use the Service while your account is active and in good standing.
If you send us suggestions, ideas or feedback about the product, we may use them freely to improve it, with no obligation of compensation, confidentiality or attribution.
11.Third-party sources and services
Content may cite and link to external sources — web pages, encyclopaedias, articles, images and video. That material belongs to whoever published it, is shown with its origin attributed, and is subject to the rules of those sites. We neither control nor endorse what is in them, and we are not responsible for their accuracy, availability or licensing.
The Service depends on third-party providers to work (authentication, hosting, database, AI models, search, speech synthesis and payments). They are listed in the Privacy Policy. A failure or change at one of those providers can affect the Service.
12.Availability and changes to the Service
Rootmap is offered as is and as available. The product is evolving: features may be added, changed or removed, and AI models may be swapped. When a change materially reduces what a paid plan delivers, we will give reasonable notice and you may cancel.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. There may be scheduled maintenance, unscheduled downtime, and outages caused by the third parties the Service depends on.
13.Suspension and termination
You can close your account whenever you like, from settings or by writing to us. On closure, any active subscription is cancelled and your content is deleted within the periods described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate access — with notice whenever possible, and without notice where there is immediate risk — if you breach these Terms; if there is fraud, limit abuse or a risk to the security of the Service and other users; or if the law requires it. Where we terminate for breach, amounts already paid are not refunded except where the law says otherwise.
We may also discontinue the Service entirely. If we do, we will give reasonable notice, allow time for you to export your content, and refund the unused portion of active subscriptions pro rata.
14.Warranties and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of generated content, learning outcomes, continuous availability or freedom from error.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid Rootmap in the 12 months before the event and (b) the equivalent of BRL 500. We are not liable for lost profits, loss of data you did not export, lost opportunity, or indirect damages.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that the law does not allow to be excluded — including the rights the Brazilian Consumer Code grants consumers, and equivalent mandatory consumer rights elsewhere, which prevail over anything to the contrary here.
You agree to indemnify us for losses arising from your use of the Service in breach of these Terms or of third-party rights.
15.Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms. The date of the last update is always at the top of this page. When a change is material — because it affects prices, rights, limits or how we handle your data — we will tell you by email or in the product at least 30 days in advance.
Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you disagree, cancel your subscription and close your account before then.
16.General
- If any clause of these Terms is held invalid, the rest remain in force.
- Not enforcing a right under these Terms is not a waiver of it.
- You may not assign this agreement. We may assign it in a corporate reorganisation, merger or acquisition, keeping the agreed conditions.
- These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the plans page, are the entire agreement between you and Rootmap about the Service.
17.Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil, where Rootmap is operated. Disputes are subject to the courts of the consumer's domicile, without prejudice to any other venue mandatory consumer law in your country grants you.
18.Contact
